2020 Senior

Graduation During a Pandemic.

Here I am, a senior graduating in the middle of the Covid-19 outbreak. Its been quite the time honestly. Switching to online classes in the middle of the semester definitely took a toll on my mental health yet I still came out of the semester with a 4.0 gpa. I also completed my second year at the local community college. I am now left with nothing to do until August when school starts again.

My high school experience has been very different than the average teen. My Mom started homeschooling my 3 older siblings when I was 2 years old, and naturally when I got to the schooling age Mom decided to homeschool me as well. I will forever be thankful for my Mom deciding to teach her children at home. I have noticed so many differences between how I was raised and how my friends were raised when it comes to learning. Through out my schooling there have been many ups and downs and I firmly believe that I have come out stronger because of them.

Despite the hardships that came my way my faith really guided me to the other side. From bullying and mental health issues to field trips and dances I always found refuge with God and I would not be here writing this if not for my faith and my family.

January 2020 started a new year, a new decade, and the last semester of my high school career. This also marked my fourth semester at the community college and I was so excited to be there with my friends. The excitement didn't last long as news of the Corona Virus began to become more and more serious. The week of spring break all the schools shut down and moved to online learning. This threw everything into chaos.

Consistency has always been important to my health and quarantine caused everything to change. It took me a month and a half to get to some kind of schedule. I had also been struggling with different anti-depressants to find something that would work since I was coming out of the winter and my past one had stopped working. However, I stuck with it and kept up with homework. I was only taking 3 classes and 2 of my teachers lighted the work load so it was easier to keep up while adjusting to the sudden change.

I made it out alive and I am so glad to be finished with high school. It has been a year to remember, I am hoping that once things lighten up I can have a proper celebration with my friends and family.

As a 9/11 baby and a 2020 Senior I think it is safe to say that my 18 years of life have been full of difficult times and big changes. I pray that these experiences prove as blessings that shape me to do great things.
